In line with the mission of Francois Cheval, Director of the Niepce Museum, one of the most significant photography museums in France, the French Embassy, together with Filipino partners, shall be organizing an event focusing on the field of photography. This project aims to go beyond more traditional forms of exhibiting photography so as to explore creative ways of presentation appropriate in a Filipino context while also inviting the participation of a French photographer.
Objective
The objective of this project is to create an art event set in a public space. Envisioned to be a long-term project, it will be then brought to different places in Manila every year.
The proposed site is the Quezon City circle. Formerly known as Kilometer Zero, the Quezon City Memorial Circle will be the starting point or the first venue for this event thus a proposed title for this is Kilometer Zero (KM 0).
Expectations
This call is intended for a team or collective of at least two (2) Filipino artists (photographers and multi-media artists) to propose a work around the theme.
A. The proposal should emphasize the exhibition spaces in a way reflective of individuals and communities (whether actual or imagined) that frequent it.
B. The proposal should demonstrate ingenuity in photographic production and attention to detail in the presentation of the final artwork.
Rules
- Project:
1) The deadline for the call for proposal is on December 3rd, 2010.
2) Up to now organizers of the project are: The French Embassy to the Philippines, The Alliance francaise de Manille, the Niepce Museum in Chalon sur Saone. Filipino partners will be involved in the course of the project.
3) The project will take place between April and May 2010 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
4) Following the event at the Circle, another event will be organized at the Alliance francaise de Manille.
5) A catalogue will be part of the exhibition.
- Collective
6) Only proposals from collectives of 2 or more artists shall be considered.
7) The proposal must include
7.1 A general statement (not more than 300 words) describing the proposed work
7.2 A detailed budget proposal/ production costs and,
7.3 How the space will be used.
8) All works must include photography in any shape or form, be it printed or video or installative.
9) The organizers shall contribute towards the production costs of works up to the amount Php 300,000.
