Novel Notions: Love Story (Erich Segal)

Written by Erich Segal, Love Story is an international bestseller published in 1970. Way older than me. It is one of those classic stories where rich guy meets poor girl, falls in love then gets married. Described that way, the plot sounds typical. Like something out of a Filipino primetime soap opera. But there's nothing ordinary about the way it is written.

The main characters are Oliver Barrett IV, the rich jock studying in Harvard, and Jennifer Cavilleri, the poor beauty of Italian descent, majoring music at Radcliffe. The two of them are worlds apart, but they grow deeply in love and share something special. Theirs is a relationship that would have been the envy of many. However, Jenny's death ends it all too soon.

Obviously, the story ends on a sad note, but there is much to learn from this novel about family, relationships and love. Anyway, all I really wanna say is it's profoundly moving! So don't just read it, get your own copy now!
